With the holiday season excitement typically comes weight gain- paper weight gain! During the holiday season businesses and household have a 25% increase in waste, paper being the biggest contributor. From Thanksgiving to New Year’s Eve, wrapping paper, ribbons and cards consumer our personal and professional lives. With New Year’s right around the corner, now is the time to start thinking about how to incorporate paperless solutions to reduce paper.
Reusable Plates and Utensils
We all have a ton of holiday parties to attend and host, so taking the easier path of paper plates and plastic utensils is very alluring. It means easier clean up and no dishes but it does mean a significant amount of waste.. Using reusable dishes saves you money and reduces paper waste.
We mentioned in our last post, Get Your Office Ready for the Holidays, how to bring holiday festivities into the office. Rather than bring paper decorations into the office, have each employee bringing something small from home to decorate. If you don’t want to put up a lot of decorations, fill a jar with holiday themed candy- everyone loves candy!
Use Recycled Paper
Think about how much paper your office goes through printing and copying. Rather than give up paper altogether (which we know is unrealistic), use recycled or used paper. Don’t waste new paper, reuse old paper.
