We all know the feeling too well; the feeling like you’re constantly busy, going from task to task. Many feel that the more we do, the more productive we are but unfortunately, that’s not the case. There is a big difference between being productive and simply being busy. Being busy doing different tasks doesn’t mean that you’re accomplishing anything; it will make you believe that you’re completing many tasks when really it’s taking away from your productivity.
Doing it quickly could prevent you from doing it right.
Because of our busy schedules, we are often running around, scrambling. Removing items from our lists and getting things done is important to us. While it does feel good to accomplish everything from our list, you need to ensure that you are finishing them entirely. Rather than rush through every item on your list, take it slow and make sure you complete all aspects of the task.
Understand your goals.
When you determine and understand your goals, you’ll find that focusing on that goal will be much easier. Write down a realistically achievable goal for each week. Keeping the numbers on the lower side will allow you to achieve them more efficiently.
Keep control of your schedule.
Being firm with your schedule is important; it will allow you to eliminate the unnecessary busyness from your life. After writing down your goals, write down specific times in your agenda dedicated to that goal. It will let you prioritize your tasks so that you don’t burn yourself out. When you are diligent with your time, you will find it easier to achieve your goals.
Know when to say “Yes” and when to say “No”.
In order to be firm with your schedule, you have to learn when to take on more tasks and when to say no. None of us want to let anyone down, so it can be difficult to tell others “no”. It is important to help others but it is equally important to take care of yourself and your tasks. Saying “no” to certain requests will allow you to complete your task without feeling overwhelmed.
Staying focused on tasks and your goals is important, especially in today’s digital world. Focusing can be challenging when you have phone, tablet and computer screens competing for your attention. Making sure that you can focus on each task individually will help you stay productive and efficient.
